Student found dead on campus in Aberdeen
The 19-year-old woman was discovered at Robert Gordon’s University
A student has been found dead on campus at Robert Gordon’s University in Aberdeen.
The unnamed 19-year-old woman was found at the Garthdee Road campus on 20th November, the university confirmed.
An email was sent to students last week explaining that there is support available if students need it.
Police officers attended the scene at around 10:15am, last Wednesday, after the student’s death.
According to Aberdeen Live, the student’s family has been made aware and Police Scotland has confirmed that the death is being treated as unexplained with enquiries ongoing.
A police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Garthdee Road, Aberdeen around 10.15am on Wednesday, 20 November, 2024 following the sudden death of a 19-year-old woman.
“Next of kin have been made aware.
“Her death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.”
An email was also sent to students last week explaining that there is support available if students need it.
A spokesperson told STV: “RGU can sadly confirm that the body of a student was found on its campus this morning (Wednesday 20th November). The University is liaising with the emergency services and is supporting the student’s family as well as the entire University community.
“This is a very sad situation and our thoughts are with the student’s family and friends.”
Local MSP and former university staff member, Audrey Nicoll, spoke about the incident, saying: “I am deeply saddened to learn of the death of a student found in the grounds of RGU earlier this week. This will come as a shock to everyone who knew her and I extend my thoughts and heartfelt sympathies to her family, friends, and everyone who knew her at the RGU campus.
“As a former staff member at RGU I know the University will be ensuring anyone impacted by this tragic loss will be offered the support they need.”
