The University of Sheffield has ranked highly in The Guardian’s latest university rankings.
It placed 20th out of 122 institutions in the UK, rising from its 21st spot in 2023.
The Guardian University Guide 2025 also placed the university within the top ten for 12 subjects including construction, surveying and planning (first), aerospace engineering (third) and journalism (fifth).
Professor Koen Lamberts, president and vice – chancellor of the University of Sheffield, said: “The fact that we have been ranked in the top 10 for 12 subject areas is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff and students
“At Sheffield, we prioritise providing our students with an exceptional educational experience and this commitment to world-class learning and teaching has once again been recognised.”
The Guardian’s league table allows parents and prospective students to make decisions about their future in higher education by evaluating important aspects of each institution.
The rankings consider student satisfaction with teaching and feedback, and the percentage of students who find employment within 15 months of graduating or going into higher educational programmes.
The University of Sheffield averaged a Guardian score of 65.3 out of 100, scoring an 86 on the career after 15 months category.
Prof Lamberts added: “By equipping our students with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in today’s competitive job market, we’re helping them to go out and make a lasting impact on the world.”
This follows Sheffield’s exciting news being ranked as the top Russell Group university for the second successive year by the National Student Survey (NSS), which also rated their Students’ Union the best in the UK.
Sheffield Hallam fell towards the bottom of the rankings but had improved it’s 2023 placement drastically, rising from 83rd place to 75th.
