The Killers pay tribute to Barnaby Webber during Reading Festival set

Headlining at Reading Festival last weekend, The Killers paid tribute to Barnaby Webber, a victim of the Nottingham attacks, during their set on Saturday.

Lead singer of the band, Brandon Flowers, paid tribute to Barnaby during the last song of their performance as they began playing Mr Brightside. As the song started playing, Brandon said: “This is in memory of Barnaby Webber.”

One of their most popular songs, Mr Brightside was a favourite of Barnaby’s and was played during his funeral on July 14th.

Barnaby died on June 13th alongside his friend Grace O’Malley-Kumar, both of whom had just finished their first year studying at the University of Nottingham.

The two were on their way home from a night out, when they were attacked on Ilkeston Road. Ian Coates, a 65-year-old school caretaker, was also killed in the early hours of June 13th.

Since their death, tributes have poured in, with Ms O’Malley-Kumar’s family describing her as a “truly wonderful and beautiful young lady”, saying that she would be “so dearly missed.”

Mr Webber’s family have said that Barnaby was a “beautiful, brilliant, bright young man, with everything in life to look forward to.”

Valdo Calocane, 31, has been charged with their murders alongside the attempted murder of three pedestrians, after allegedly driving a van into them in the city centre.

Mr Calocane will face trial in January next year, pending a plea hearing on September 25th.
