Naked AU Calendar: Behind the Scenes

Warwick Rowers – watch out

Athletic Union Loughborough Naked calendar

It’s that time of year again when the AU teams get their kit off for the naked calendar and we at The Epinal can’t wait.

One of the best perks of coming to Loughborough is witnessing the fine specimens that champion the national sport tables.

Managing to get behind the scenes on the second day of the secret shoot, The Epinal got to talk to AU Secretary Lauren Gough to find out which teams are looking promising this year.

This years selected charity is Marie Curie, following the new BUCS charity league choosing to partner with them making “a good choice for the entire Athletic Union to support”.

The AU Naked Calendar is put together over a period of several weeks containing a lot of hard work, communication and 2 full days of shooting.

With 55 AU clubs and only 12 months, the organisers ended up making tough choices resulting in 23 clubs making the cut with an extra shoot of the nude exec team – don’t worry the rugby team made it to the finals.

The collaboration of Lens the new media sector and the Exec team will hopefully result in some of the best abs shots yet. The two members from Lens, Isabella Piggott and Chris Gregory, create all the positions for the teams, ensuring just enough is shown to make tasteful viewing.

Here is Lauren’s perspective on some of the shoots so far:

What has been your funniest shoot so far?

American Football. They were really good characters and came in not knowing what they wanted to do. They worked with everything we gave them and were oiled up and all had face paint. They really got into the spirit and went for it.

Who has been the hottest group?

Rowing, I’m waiting for Gymnastics and Water Polo though… but Rowing were great (laughs).

Are all body parts on show?

“Everybody is covered using something related to sport and most girls have kept their underpants on. Rowers used buoyance aids for the girls and they had paddles out for other coverage. Hockey used placards and hockey sticks. It’s really smart how it’s done and all sorts of balls get used…

When will the calendar be out and how much will it cost?

“It comes out in January 2015. The price hasn’t been confirmed yet but were looking at about £2”

So with American Footballers oiled up and Rowers displaying more than good bone structure, we are certainly ready to buy this years charity calendar.

You’ll need to buy the calendar to see all the gear come off.
