Women’s Hockey dismantle Manchester

Loughborough 6 – 2 Manchester

| UPDATED BUCS hockey Loughborough manchester win

Despite not being at their free flowing best, the dominant Lufbra women’s first team comfortably disposed of a travelling Manchester team 6-2 to get their BUCS campaign off to an emphatic start.

Player Ratings

Laura Myers – 6/10

A quiet game for the Lufbra keeper who made a couple good saves when called upon. Will be disappointed to have conceded twice against average opposition.

Megan Lewis-Williams – 6/10

Steady at the back against limited opposition threat.

Philippa Went –  7/10

Pivoted well in the centre-back birth. Went provided good distribution to either flank.

Beth Walker-Smith – 6/10

Similar to Lewis Williams. Solid at the back to save the short corners.

Signs were looking ominous for a trembling Manchester as Lufbra opened the scoring within five minutes of push back.

Reynolds released the dangerous Hannah Pike down the right hand side. Claudia Moehrke reacted quickest to the loose ball to score the first of her two goals on the day.

Lufbra began the second half in a confident fashion with Ellie Tait coming close after some superb dribbling.

Finally, they doubled their advantage as Hannah Pike was there to turn in a scrappy but deserved goal.

Just as it seemed that Luff would run away with the match, Manchester somehow got themselves back into the game from a short corner.

However, this only served to delay the inevitable as goals from Ellie Tait (2) and Blunt extended our lead to 5-1 as the homesick Manchester side wilted under the home side’s pressure.

Player of the match, Ellie Tait saved the best until last as her pin point cross from the left corner found its way on to the stick of Moehrke whose deft deflection completed the rout for the dominant force.
