A busy summer for the clubs in town

Goodbye Rain.

| UPDATED changes clubbing clubs Loughborough

You have already been bombarded with Facebook events and requests to like pages for nights out, but as the new year at Lufbra is getting started you may be wondering what the year has to offer that last year did not.

This summer has seen the demise of Rain, it has been rebranded and replaced by Firefly.

Firefly has seen the return of a few good nights during the week. The layout has been improved, which has made a much better use of the limited space available.

Although a lot of people have shared their outrage at the rebranding of the club, “I think the change in name is a bit futile and it will always be Rain, it’s just a waste of money and effort for them.”

Rain was often seen as somewhere to go before the main club on a night out – almost a post-pre-drinks venue.

One student told The Epinal, “I’m not happy about Rain shutting down at all. Monday night rain, before Mansion as Ransion, before Echos as Rechos… All things of the past now. Fechos? F**k off.”

However, the club’s popularity was clearly lacking, Monday Night Rain was overtaken in popularity by Mansion and only came back on the scene with special guests such as Made in Chelsea’s Andy Johnson.

MNR is no more.

However, some people think the changes will be good, “Before Rain was too dominated by one social group and seemed quite cliquey so hopefully now it will be popular with more people.”

The ‘ratio’ at its finest.

Wild Sunday’s were seen as the only night anyone would visit District, and it was still seemingly unpopular.

Disrict’s lack of popularity developed throughout the year with one student expressing his concern, “It was more busy last year but it became more and more empty so I’m not too bothered it’s gone.”

Many students are unbothered by the loss of this “distinctly average” night, preferring to save themselves for Mansion on Monday, one stating “I don’t care because it’s on a Sunday and Sunday is a resting day for Monday.”

Another club trying to reinvent itself this year is arguably the classiest venue in Lufbra, Vodka Revolution.

XO Thursdays is Lufbra’s newest night, promising RNB, Vocal House and Club Classics until 04:00 am. Many people see Revs as a nice place for a meal or a cocktail but rarely as a staple night in the week.

TJ Yesufu, who has undoubtedly put Mansion Monday’s on the map, hopes to change this stating that he is:

“Proud to launch a brand new Thursday this year at Vodka Revolution called “XO Thursdays” to add to the already thriving Monday night House Party at Mansion Nightclub.

“The idea behind XO is to create and capture amazing memories and provide Lufbra with a weekly night which differs from what can be found anywhere else.

“We want to bring certain aspects of nights from bigger cities to town; including features like Saxophonists, Bongo Players, VIP table packages, table hostesses, bottle shows and top class DJ’s from all over the country, whilst still keeping it very Lufbra relevant.

“We have some great Music acts and TV personalities coming throughout the year and are keen to revive Thursday nights in town back to how they used to be.”

Students of Lufbra are also hoping for big things, “Hopefully it will be good because TJ made Mansion Monday’s good already. Revs definitely needs something different because at the moment it’s boring.”
