Glasgow ranked amongst WORST nights out in the UK by new ranking
Glasgow’s ranking comes as Edinburgh makes it into the top 10
Glasgow has been ranked as the ninth worst city in the United Kingdom for a university night out, while Edinburgh has taken the Scottish crown.
This is according to data compiled by Get Licensed.
The list has been assembled through a combination of a number of factors which they say have been considered, including the proportion of bars, clubs and pubs, the percentage of venues rated over three stars, and the average prices of a taxi and a pint of beer.
Also considered was the level of safety in each of the respective cities, as they considered residents’ worries about being mugged, attacked, walking home alone at night and the overall safety index score.
Durham, York and Newcastle were ranked as the nation’s top three, whilst Edinburgh came in at number seven, making it the only Scottish city to be placed within the top 10. It had an overall ranking of 6.45, and the average price of a pint was said to be £5. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad to be honest.
Glasgow meanwhile came in at number nine in the 10 worst university city nights out, a list of shame that was topped by London, Coventry and Manchester, with London achieving a measly overall score of 1.36.
Glasgow fared slightly better though, with an overall score of 3.94, which included a lower average price of a pint than Edinburgh at £4.50. At least we beat them at something, I guess.
However Glasgow’s safety index ranked at only 55 out of 100 with only 42 out of 100 people saying they felt safe walking home at night.
As well as this, 39 of 100 people also said they were worried about being robbed in Glasgow on a night out and 45 said they were afraid of being attacked.
Additionally, only 81 per cent of Glasgow’s bars and nightclubs were rated above three stars, a whole 10 per cent below Edinburgh. Can’t say I’m surprised really.
