Young father-of-two died on day he was due to start at University of Glasgow

Young father tragically passes away at 24 years old after suffering a brain aneurysm

Drew McCleave tragically passed away on Wednesday 23rd September, at just 24 years old. The young father, from Stevenson, Ayrshire, passed away on the very day he was due to begin his aerospace systems course at the University of Glasgow, a long-standing ambition of his, as he had always dreamed of “one day putting something in space”.

For Drew, starting his degree marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his life and a step towards achieving an ambition he had held for many years, making the timing of his passing particularly heart-breaking.

Drew passed away surrounded by his family, leaving behind two daughters, aged three years and three months. The family have since set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the daughters’ “day-to-day needs” and provide them with financial support as they grow up.

The family wrote on their GoFundMe page: “To lose him at just 24, with so much of his life still ahead of him, is something our family is struggling to come to terms with… Nothing can replace Drew, and nothing can take away the pain of losing him. But we hope that, together, we can give his girls a little bit of security and support as they navigate life without their dad there to watch them grow.”

Drew’s death came at a very difficult time for the family, as they had recently lost his older sister, Taylor, at just 22 years old a few year prior. Drew’s family said he “had been through an incredibly difficult period following the death of his sister, Taylor. But becoming a dad changed him… He was a loving, doting dad who loved nothing more than his two wee girls.”

Drew’s family are now hoping to provide his two daughters with a degree of security and support, while remembering a young man whose life was tragically cut short as he was preparing to pursue one of his biggest ambitions.
