Cardiff University lecturers announce another 15 days of strikes before the end of year

The new strikes will take place in July, August and September 2023

Cardiff University has announced that there will be 15 more days of strikes taking place in the coming months, including at the start of next semester.

In an email sent to students on 25th May, Claire Morgan, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Education and Student Experience at Cardiff Uni explained that “more strike action is planned at a later date”.

These new strike dates will be as follows: 17th to 21st July, 14th to 18th August, and 25th to 29th August. The final few days of these strikes will coincide with Freshers’ Week and the beginning of some courses, such as Master’s degrees.

Claire further added: “We do not know which schools or programmes will be affected – not all staff are taking part so some of you may not be affected at all.

“Many of you will receive your results on time, progress, and (if in your final year) graduate as planned”.

She did note, however, that some students may face disruption, such as not receiving marks but that it “is hard to predict” the level of disruption at this time.

She ended the email by confirming that graduations will still be going ahead, regardless of whether marks have been awarded or not. This was also previously confirmed by the university when The Cardiff Tab reached out to confirm graduation plans.
