Now the Exeter team captain, Ollie Leatherbarrow, is confirmed to have been suspended from playing for an eight week period after his participation in the incident.

The 16st 8lbs economics student, also a Scotland Under-20 international, struck a Cardiff player on the face twice before dragging him across the floor by his collar, an official England Rugby report says, leaving the student with bruising to the face.

“The player has been charged with conduct prejudicial to the interests of the union and the game, contrary to RFU Rule 5.12 and will appear before a disciplinary panel,” read a statement from the RFU about Leatherbarrow, shared by WalesOnline.

Exeter Chiefs told The Cardiff Tab: “As a club we won’t be commenting as this matter occurred whilst he was featuring for the University, not Exeter Chiefs.”

The club continued by saying that: “Ollie has already been dealt with by an RFU disciplinary hearing.”

After the match, Exeter Uni  is now positioned at second in the BUCS Super League table with 55 points, whilst Cardiff Uni sits at sixth with 41 points.
