‘You’re my type on paper’: Here’s why people prefer Love Is Blind UK over Love Island
Viewers agree that Love Is Blind UK is just a far superior dating show
Love Is Blind UK is still absolutely crushing the Netflix top 10 since its release, and the crazy concept is that regular Brits must get engaged based on conversations with people alone – they aren’t allowed to see their fiancée until they propose. So many people prefer Love Is Blind over Love Island, and the reason may lie in this season of Love Is Blind UK. The whole show just seems way more serious than Love Island, which is usually a drama-riddled situationship fest. But, drama and shock-value aside, what is it that actually makes Love Is Blind UK the more successful dating show than Love Island? Here’s a roundup of all the things that people love about Love Is Blind UK.
The contestants are older and at more of a ‘marriage’ age on Love Is Blind UK
It seems like the older cast of Love Is Blind UK has gone down very well with viewers. Yes, I guess the appeal of Love Island is to have a “hot new bombshell” enter the villa, but that isn’t the case with Love Is Blind UK, where the whole point of the show is to fall for somebody’s personality instead of looks. People seem to like this vibe more and feel more hopeful for their futures working out.
There’s no cringey lingo like ‘muggy’ or ‘my type on paper’
People on Reddit are THRILLED to be watching a UK reality dating show where the contestants aren’t speaking in a mystery cringey language. One user said: “Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a Love Island hater but the words ‘muggy’ ‘my type on paper’ etc. have permeated through UK television and it always feels so forced and cringe. It’s nice to watch cliche free chat for once.” I completely get that, although if I have to hear “I’m buzzing” one more time I’m going to cancel my Netflix subscription.
The contestants are ‘well-spoken’ in comparison to Love Island
People online seem to love the “posh” accents on the show, however I’m not sure if I’d put a brummie accent in that category (no offence implied). There’s definitely a more mature vibe that probably comes from the contestants being older, but I guess their lovely voices have something to do with it too. Maybe one of the requirements of the show is to have a great accent.
There’s a lot less discussing relationships
The producers actually encourage the contestants to shut up about their connections when they’re back in the living quarters, so there’s a lot less discussing relationships. For most of the time, they actually manage to do this. While this means a lot less drama for TV, it actually makes it a lot nicer to live, and the girls feel like genuine friends instead of competitors. On Love Island, it often feels like everyone’s talking behind everyone’s backs, but the lack of relationship discussion is very telling on Love Is Blind UK – it changes the whole vibe.
Being pulled for a chat is a LOT more dramatic on Love Is Blind UK
Being pulled for a chat is pretty much an every day occurrence on Love Island, but it’s caused some SERIOUS dramas on Love Is Blind UK. So far, there have been three notable chats, which include Benaiah and Sam’s showdown, Ollie and Cat’s “closure” chat, and Natasha telling Tom she’s in love with him. The level of beef is catastrophic and marriage-ending compared to having a little terrace conversation that might lead to a cheeky kiss.
