Bridgerton star Simone Ashley ‘proud’ to star in new F1 film alongside Brad Pitt

Bridgerton star Simone Ashley is switching lanes from the Ton and is set to star alongside Brad Pitt in an upcoming film all about F1. After seeing her steal the spotlight as Kate Sharma in Bridgerton and spill all as Olivia in Sex Education, the Netflix queen is really pushing the boat out for this new movie.

Detailing the life of Sonny Haynes, the movie F1 (wonder how they came up with that?) will follow a former Formula 1 driver who returns to the sport and partners with and mentors another rookie on the grid. But what else should we expect? Here’s everything we know about the new F1 film starring Simone Ashley and Brad Pitt himself.

F1 is set to premiere in Summer 2025

F1 will be in theatres and IMAX internationally on the 25th of June 2025. That may seem like a long wait, but with the insane wait between Bridgerton seasons, I think it’s a price we are willing to pay to see Simone in action.

Details on Ashley’s role in the film have been left pretty ambiguous so far, as she does not appear in the short teaser clip. It would be great if we saw her taking part in the action like her role in Bridgerton, wherein her character Kate famously enjoys fast paced horse racing. A speedy queen, if you will.

However, with F1 drivers being pretty male dominated in reality, this seems unlikely. The last woman to drive in a real F1 race was in 1992. We can hope, though.

If the cast wasn’t impressive enough, he film studded cast for the movie also includes Javier Bardem, who recently appeared in Dune, as well as Black Mirror’s Damson Idris. The Banshees of Inisherin actress, Kerry Condon, will also appear. Wowing.

Simone Ashley was even spotted with Damson Idris and Joseph Kosinski at Silverstone recently, with filming for the movie taking place on actual Grand Prix weekends as the fictional team competes against the titans of the sport.

Last month, Simone spoke of her pride in her work at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival, saying: “I have always been very ambitious, ever since I was a kid, but no matter what I do, a small indie project or big studio production, I want to make sure it’s something I am proud of. That there is an urgency for this story to be told.”

F1 is being co-produced by Brad Pitt, and Lewis Hamilton himself

Not only is the movie starring A-List celebs, it’s being produced by them too. And who else knows the sport better than seven time Formula One World Drivers’ Championship winner, Lewis Hamilton himself?

Joseph Kosinski, who recently directed Top Gun Maverick, is directing Brad and Simone in F1, with Lewis Hamilton’s own production company, Dawn Apollo Films, one of many sponsoring the project. Alongside Carlos and Max, Brad Pitt totally looks the part.

The teaser for Simone’s latest project was released on the same day as the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on July 7th; an iconic announcement I’m sure Lady Whistledown would appreciate.

The short clip includes cameos of Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz, as well as F1 legend and Netflix’s Drive to Survive fan favourite, Guenther Steiner, the former director of Haas.

Look at those acting skills, Guenther on the big screen is something that was not on my bingo card for 2024. That concern? I’m hooked.

Racing and motor sport isn’t just seeping into Ashley’s career moves, but also her love life. She has been upfront about her romance with Constantin “Tino” Klein, former lawyer turned CEO of GP Ice Race.

They met at the Monaco Grand Prix in 2022, which Ashley attended alongside Euphoria’s Jacob Elordi. Although I will struggle to ever picture Kate Sharma, or Simone Ashley, with anyone other than her Bridgerton romantic interest and soulmate, Anthony, I will admit her and Tino are extremely cute.
