Calling all uni house mums: You can now get a paid job testing tea for Twinings

Wash your dressing gowns and get your biggest mugs ready, ladies

Inside every uni house across the country is a student who prides themselves on being the motherly role amongst a group of friends. She is the one who holds back hair on a night out, cleans up after hosting a pre and she will always provide a shoulder to cry on when the going gets tough. In short: she’s a national treasure who works endlessly without payment. But that’s all about to change because the tea company Twining’s have introduced a new job which means uni house mums and those alike can now get paid in actual cash AND free cups of tea. A double win.

Active Staff is on the lookout for some new recruits who are willing to trial tea from Twinings. The job is part-time and requires just four hours of your time a week. It has three weeks on and then four weeks off over a period of 12 months. So there’s no need to quit your day job and you can even resume your role of house mum without busting a gut over who’s going to take the bins out.

The job was originally posted on LinkedIn and it doesn’t go into too much detail. But it does state that instead of a traditional interview, there will be a screening to ensure you have “the desired taste sensitivity”. Which suggests they’re looking for someone who knows their tea and not someone who chucks in three sugars after adding milk before the hot water.

The pay is £9.50 an hour, so you’re looking at almost £50 a day. Just imagine the amount of fairy lights you could buy with that kind of cash! The listing continues: “This is an important and crucial role for the organisation so it is essential that you would be able to commit to this programme on an on-going basis.

“Should you be successful, you will be selected to become a part of a group of tasters responsible for providing feedback on the variety of tea produced at Twinings. When you are fully trained, the working hours will fall across two days.”

If you fancy applying for the role then you can apply via LinkedIn here.
