What other residents said about Susan Lorincz in interviews The Perfect Neighbor left out

‘Everybody in this neighborhood has feuded with this lady over our children’

Everyone is talking about Susan Lorincz again two years after the case rocked the world thanks to Netflix’s new documentary, which misses out some interesting witness interviews from neighbours at the time.

The Perfect Neighbor follows the seemingly minor neighbourhood dispute in Ocala, Florida which escalated into Lorincz shooting mother Ajike “AJ” Shantrell Owens through a door and killing her.

It’s told entirely through real police bodycam footage and interviews, but there are more personal accounts from neighbours living in nearby houses which weren’t included.

One neighbour says Lorincz stuck her middle finger up at him

Franklyn Colon was playing in a nearby field with his son hours before the shooting happened, and told NBC News Susan put her middle finger up at him. He said Ajike Owens warned him about her when he moved to the area two years before, and recalled a time when she started recording and screaming “all kinds of nonsense towards me, towards the kids, towards everyone else”.

He heard the gunshot from his home and was the first person at the scene when Ajike was tragically killed. Colon performed CPR on her until the police and emergency services arrived.

“When I saw her and everything, I’m like, ‘Oh crap.’ I started scanning for open wounds. No exit wound, just an upper right chest [wound],” he said.

‘Everybody in this neighbourhood has feuded with this lady’

Another neighbour who does feature in the documentary, Phyllis Wills, said Susan “used to come outside all the time and harass our kids,” claiming: “Everybody in this neighborhood has feuded with this lady over our children.”

“Our kids used to play in the field over there all the time. It’s an apartment complex. These are children who, you know, they’re, they’re going to do things. Every time they’ve went even in the patch of grass over there, she would be like, ‘Get off of my lawn, you b*****d or you retards or you N-word.’ She would wave guns at them,” she said.

Wills continued: “She recorded them every time she came outside. She’s gotten into her truck and blasted the radio as loud as she could to agitate the kids. She’s gotten into her truck and laid on the horn for long periods of time to agitate them, as well. She sped out in her truck out here, just crazy things.”

She said she’d never called the police on Susan personally, or even had a conversation with her, but often “stood in my yard and yelled at her for the way she talks to the kids”.

Another says she was known as the ‘neighbourhood Karen’

Sharna Mozell had lived in the neighborhood for 12 years at the time Ajike was murdered, and her 10-year-old daughter would often play outside with the other children. She told NBC News Lorincz “was a problem with the kids” and would come outside and record them “constantly”.

She said she was known as the neighbourhood “Karen,” and her daughter would often come home and say: “Mama, Karen called the police on us today.”

“But the police never do anything… because we’re kids, we’re just playing. Like, I don’t understand, like, what was her motive or what was the problem?” she continued.
