All the MAFS contestants who actually admitted they were on the show for fame and clout
They’ve said what we were all thinking
It’s a very common theory that some MAFS contestants sign up for the show not dreaming of love, but of lovely brand deals. Cast members love flinging around accusations that their ex / rival / minor acquaintance only went on the show for clout. Some MAFS contestants have gone a step further, and actually admitted their own motivations for going on the dating show. So, here are the MAFS UK and MAFS Australia cast members who have actually said they were thinking of the fame.
Julia-Ruth Smith, UK
This week on MAFS, the cast broke the fourth wall and bashed Julia-Ruth for sticking around on the TV show for attention instead of love. Keye literally accused her of being there for “15 minutes of fame”.
Plenty of MAFS viewers have accused her of being on the show to boost her entertainment career. Julia-Ruth has been on TV plenty of times before MAFS. She did previously share a bizarre theory as to why accountants are more likely to go on a reality TV show in search of fame than her. After the drama of the latest dinner party, Julia-Ruth finally admitted her intentions changed while she was filming MAFS.

In a lengthy Instagram statement, she wrote: “I came into this experiment hoping for the best, a lifetime partner.” She argued the producers “wouldn’t have [her] on MAFS if they didn’t believe where my heart was at and my intentions.”
However, she then confessed: “I myself lost sight of that and who I am on my time in this experiment.”

Erm, he told Yahoo: “Everyone that goes on the show is usually open for love, and the byproduct of going on the show and putting yourself out there for the world to judge, to love or whatever it might be, is getting your two minutes of fame.”
He then added: “What is wrong with someone wanting to go on the show, finding love, becoming famous and excelling in your business? If you can do it all in one hit, the majority of people will do it if they’re willing to put themselves out to the world, and that’s just the way I view it.”
Well, I guess he’s got to sell those sports bags and promote that pasta place somehow…

Mark Kiley, UK
His trainwreck marriage to Sean in 2023 lives rent-free in everybody’s heads. Mark moaned to the Sun after his season of MAFS aired: “I thought I’d be living the high life, going to events, doing lots of Instagram stuff and that life would be better after being on the show. It feels like I was mis-sold a dream.
“If I had known I’d only be there for such a short amount of time I wouldn’t have bothered. My match wasn’t ready for a relationship and I’ve had to go back to my old workplace.”
Mark claimed producers convinced him to join MAFS as part of an intruder couple as it was equivalent to being a bombshell on Love Island, such as Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu. “I looked her up and was impressed,” he added.

Harrison of 2023 fame (or infamy) made some pretty revealing comments on the Nathan, Nat and Shaun podcast. “I went on the show because I was looking to get into a relationship,” he said, “I wanted to test myself. And I was pretty open about the fact that at least if that didn’t work out, being famous also has its advantages.
“So I’m just gonna come out and say that’s probably the two main motivations for most people going on the show, is that they’re either gonna meet the person of their dreams or their gonna get that blue tick.”
Georges Berthonneau, UK
While we’re on the subject of Ekin-Su, her ex Georges Berthonneau has apparently also told people he was on MAFS for the clout. Take this one with a pinch of salt, though, as it’s second-hand gossip.
His MAFS bride Peggy told The Sun he said to other people that he wanted to be famous. “He said at the top table to my sister on our wedding day, that ‘I’m here for the blue tick'”.
She continued: “And that day I thought, ‘what is he here for?””
This is quite different to Georges’s own comments. In a 2023 interview with The Sun, he complained about other cast members being on MAFS for fame, and insisted he “was going on it for one thing and one thing only which was to meet someone”.
