The clever reason the MAFS UK experts waited to confront Steven about his behaviour

Steven has become one of MAFS UK 2025’s biggest villains for the way he’s been treating Nelly, and he’s surprisingly been getting off very lightly by the experts. Paul brutally called Sarah out on the sofa for disrespecting Dean, but all of the experts have been “letting him get away with it” according to people online.

The experts finally got a bit more savage in the most recent commitment ceremony, and Paul C. Brunson has explained the clever reason he didn’t confront him sooner: He needed time to gather evidence, so that Steven couldn’t deflect everything.

Speaking on Instagram, he said: “I know there’s probably a lot of questions around, why you didn’t all confront Stephen last week? Right? We saw him terribly yelling at Nelly it wasn’t right, and I absolutely agree it wasn’t right but the one part to Married At First Sight that you have to understand is that we as the experts, we’re not seeing what’s happening.”

“The only thing we say literally the only thing we see while we’re filming the show is what happens at the dinner party. Now we’re hearing what people are saying at the dinner party and we’re observing what happens at the dinner parties but we see nothing in terms of what’s happening in their apartments are outside of their apartments.”

Paul then said he needed time to collect evidence on Steven, so he could clearly point his behaviour out with “receipts”. If you don’t have evidence, he said they get “defensive” and start “deflecting”.

“And if they’re defensive and they start deflecting and I don’t have evidence and those words are just dismissed, those words just hit the deflection and that’s it, and they move on. Instead, if you can pull out receipt at some point and not just one but multiple examples then you’ve got them. And right here [ at the last commitment ceremony], I got Steven.”

In the caption, Paul added: “Because when someone consistently deflects or dismisses their partner’s feelings, calling it out too early gives them room to deny or avoid it. But when you gather the evidence, when the pattern becomes undeniable, that’s when accountability can truly land and Steven made it undeniable.”

“My promise will always remain the same: To show up with honesty and care, and to give the hard truths couples may need to grow, both as individuals and together.”
