‘Inclusivity has gone too far’: These awful Victoria’s Secret fashion show takes are worrying
They’re actually really damaging
This year’s Victoria’s Secret fashion show happened last night, and as usual, everyone had a lot to say. But the hot takes making the rounds on social media reveal a worrying change in opinions on diversity.
After a six-year hiatus, the Victoria’s Secret fashion show came back a couple of years ago – and kinda flopped. The original show is pretty controversial now as it famously had mostly very skinny, white models. As it returned, the Victoria’s Secret brand made more of a conscious effort towards diversity and inclusion by shaking up the range of models they included.
Now, horrible people on social media are complaining that the show is “too diverse” and that it needs to go back to the exclusive and inaccessible days of the past.

“The inclusivity of the Victoria’s Secret stuff has gone too far, not that I even care to watch the show, it’s just all over everywhere,” said one person on TikTok.
“Half of you guys are not tall enough, you walk horribly, you just don’t have a Victoria Secret OG angel body. That’s okay, but you’re not a runway model.”
Back in the early 2000s, Victoria’s Secret models had to be at least 5’8, have an athletic build and super clear skin. The brand was also called out for not having a wide range of ethnicities, and sticking with the sam 10 or so already super famous models.
Last night’s show shifted from that stereotype by including several plus-sized models, trans models, models from all sorts of ethnic backgrounds and even a pregnant model.
The comments agree with her take – even people who claim to be plus-size themselves.
“You are so brave for this queen,” said one comment. “Not everything is for everyone.”

“They’re called Victoria’s Secret angels because not everyone can be them, so stop with the ‘inclusivity’ bullsh*t” it said.
This mindset towards inclusivity is very toxic, as it puts a certain group of women above others. If we continue to say Victoria’s Secret angels are supposed to be “superhuman” and different from us, we’re also saying they’re better than us based on what they look like. The funny part is the show still isn’t even that diverse. We can’t let conservative politics leak into how we look at inclusion in the entertainment world, one of the few spaces where diversity and inclusion is still a priority.
