However, according to The Complete University Guide, the university actually fell outside of the top 20 this year, dropping four places after a successful 19th place in 2025. Despite the dissonance in the data, the University of Liverpool achieved notable improvements in it’s teaching and research reputation scores, hence the growing recognition from the global academic community.

Vice-chancellor Professor Tim Jones said: “I am delighted that the university has achieved its highest-ever position in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. It is particularly encouraging to see improvements in our teaching and research reputation, which reflect the hard work and dedication of colleagues across our academic community.

“Strategy 2031 sets out our ambition to become a global top 100 university, and these results demonstrate the progress we are making towards that goal. I would like to thank colleagues for their continued commitment to delivering world-class research and teaching that make such achievements possible.”

This recent success follows a series good performance in both international and domestic league tables. The University of Liverpool is now ranked within the top 150 globally for both the Times Higher Education and the QS University World Rankings.
