Guys, Lewis Capaldi turned Nottingham Aldi into a CAPALDI today for surprise performance

‘Lewis turned an ordinary day into supermarket history’

This morning, Lewis Capaldi turned Nottingham Aldi into a “CapAldi”, surprising shoppers with an impromptu gig.

The Becket Way Aldi in Nottingham was transformed as the singer took to the roof to perform his new single Something in the Heavens.

Rebranding the store “CapAldi” with a giant cardboard “Cap” taped to the sign, the internationally acclaimed artist started singing his first track.

Taking place at just past 10am today (Friday 26th September), the event attracted a large crowd of intrigued and excited passersby.

Local students from neighbouring The Becket School also gathered with hastily made signs to support him.

Lewis performed his new single alongside Survive and Someone you Loved, sending Aldi customers and students alike into a frenzy, as they realised their weekly shop had transformed into a once-in-a-lifetime gig.

The surprise show comes during his triumphant return to the stage after a two-year break.

The famous Scottish singer-songwriter took a hiatus from his UK arena tour to perform for Nottingham, which has sold 200,000-tickets.

Lewis said: “This is Capaldi on the roof of an Aldi. Sorry to get in the way of anyone’s shopping. I was back there earlier, some excellent produce, brioche buns, carrots – the lot.”

Julie Ashfield, chief commercial officer at Aldi UK, said: “It doesn’t get more heavenly than Lewis Capaldi on the roof of an Aldi – it feels like this moment was written in the stars.

“Our customers were treated to something truly unforgettable, and Lewis turned an ordinary day into supermarket history.”

Lewis performed three tracks, including his new single

It marks the first time he’s performed the new song outside of the arena tour, with one fan saying they hadn’t be able to get tickets for the upcoming concert this evening – making the experience even better.

The gig comes just months after Aldi rebranded its store in Prestwich, calling itself “Aldeh” ahead of Oasis concerts in Heaton Park.

Lewis is also set to perform at the Motor Point Arena in Nottingham tonight as a part of his UK and Ireland tour.
