People are dragging Charlie Kirk currency plans as Republicans push to put his face on 400k coins

It will have a six word message on the other side

A new Republican plan to mint 400,000 silver dollar coins with Charlie Kirk’s face has gone viral, but people are dragging the currency idea and questioning if it will ever really happen.

According to Fox News, the bill was introduced by Texas Representative August Pfluger and Arizona Representative Abe Hamadeh. If passed, the U.S. Treasury would create limited-edition silver dollars featuring Charlie Kirk’s full name, Charles James Kirk, the year 2026, and the phrase “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Supporters of the move have framed it as a historic first, since it would make Kirk, who was 31 when he was killed at a Utah Valley University event earlier this month, the youngest American ever honoured on legal U.S. currency. Pfluger called him a “conservative titan” whose work at Turning Point USA transformed politics for millions.

But on X, the reaction was far from supportive. One user wrote, “Seriously, we’re now adding dead podcasters to dead presidents? Are we going to have a Rush worth $3?” Another added, “How about we address some real issues facing Americans citizens everyday???” Another simply said, “Totally ridiculous and inappropriate.”

One person on Reddit also wrote, “Not a single person in my family over age 35 had ever heard of Kirk. MAGA is overstepping hard acting as though he’s fkn George Washington or something.” Others joked that the coins would be “worth less than their face value” or suggested they’d only be useful for “buying TPUSA merch at the campus store.”

So how likely is it to happen?

Well, Congress has allowed commemorative coins before. Past examples include Susan B. Anthony, John Marshall, and Sacagawea. U.S. law also says no living person can appear on money, which means Kirk is eligible. But for this to go ahead, the bill still needs to pass through Congress and get approval from the Treasury and President Donald Trump.

Alongside the coin idea, The Guardian reported that Republicans have also proposed other ways to honour Kirk, such as giving him congressional medals, a national day of remembrance, and even a statue at all state colleges.

For now, though, paying for your coffee with Charlie Kirk’s face on the coin is not happening, it’s just a proposal.
