Mystery donor offers £100k reward in search for missing graduate Jack O’Sullivan

Jack O’Sullivan disappeared without a trace in Bristol on Saturday 2nd March, 2024

In an unexpected turn in the Jack O’Sullivan case, Jack’s mother, Catherine, has disclosed that an anonymous benefactor has contacted the family with the offer of a £100,000 reward for anyone who can provide information on Jack’s whereabouts.

There have been no sightings of Jack, who would now be 24, since he vanished without a trace after leaving a house party in Hotwells, Bristol, in March of last year.

There have been numerous searches and a high-profile campaign to find the University of Exeter graduate, but the investigation has yielded no leads. His family says they are “no closer” to finding out what happened to him since the day he was reported missing.

The last likely sighting of Jack was at 3.38 am, where he was potentially caught on CCTV walking along Bennett Way slip road, as he walked in the direction of Bristol city centre. He had also been spotted on CCTV earlier in the night walking around the Cumberland Basin and under the Plimsoll Swing Bridge. Avon and Somerset Police said around 20 police departments had been involved in the search over the following weeks and months during which Jack went missing.

Although Catherine, Jack’s mother, expressed doubt about the validity of the offer, saying the family had been the victims of several hoaxes, the reward has been verified as genuine and has risen from £20k to £100k. It is payable for information that leads “directly or indirectly” to the missing student being physically reunited with his family.

Posting on the Find Jack Facebook page this morning, a page which now has almost 100,000 members, Catherine O’Sullivan shared a flyer that reads: “Find Jack: Reward: £100,000”

The poster explains:

“One reward of £100,000 can be claimed by a person or a group of persons (excluding police officers) who provide information that leads directly or indirectly to Jack O’Sullivan being physically reunited with Catherine, Alan, or Benjamin O’Sullivan.
All relevant information should be provided to any of the following: [email protected], or The Missing People Charity at 116000missingpeople.co.uk, or by calling 116000, or the Police on 101 quoting reference 5224055172.”

Catherine, 54, from Flax Bourton near Bristol, speaking about the offer from the anonymous benefactor, explained:

“Once we established that it was real, we were overcome by the generosity… it was a lot to take in.
If it does help us get some answers or find out where Jack is, we will be eternally grateful.”

She went on to say that she has spent every day for the past 18 months searching for her son Jack, and added that she will not give up until he is found. She further highlighted the devastating impact Jack’s disappearance has had on the family, but said they have no option but to keep going.

“We think of Jack every day, but it is totally unbelievable that so much time has gone past. It doesn’t feel real.”

We still have no idea what happened to him. We are still completely none the wiser. We get messages of hoaxes, ransoms, people telling me they have got him – but nothing has ever been proven.”

For me, every day is consumed by it. It has been incredibly difficult to focus on anything else.”

It would be unforgivable to even think about stopping. It wouldn’t be fair to Jack until we know what happened or where he is. If I am not going to do it as his mum, then no one else will.”

The force said it would now launch a “further review” of its investigation.

A spokesperson added they had “always taken an evidence-led, open-minded and transparent approach, with the shared aim of finding Jack”.

“So we can be certain we’ve done everything possible to find Jack, a senior investigator in Avon and Somerset Police is carrying out a further review of the investigation,” they said.

“We continue to ask the public to come forward with any information about Jack’s disappearance.”
