People call out influencer who tracked down ‘cannibal tribe’ for views and fed them salt

He posted the video on TikTok

An influencer is being called out for making contact with and exploiting a supposed “cannibal tribe” and feeding them salt just to go viral on TikTok.

In the viral video, which has had almost 20 million views, Irish content creator Dara Tah, claims he went “deep in the jungle” of Papua, Indonesia, with a tour guide who took him to a “cannibal tribe”.

You can see a group of men with huge bows and arrows on the riverbank, and the influencer says in fear: “Seriously, this is terrifying. They’re huge bows.”

Dara then claims he has an “offering” for the tribe and holds out some salt and chocolate as a “bargain” to try and make the tribe members accept them.

He opens the bag of salt, sprinkles a bit onto his hand and pours it into the tribe member’s hand, who licks it off and spits it out in disgust.

“Oh god. He doesn’t look like he likes that. He doesn’t like it. Alright guys, let’s move back,” he says before the tour guide tells them to move the boat away and leave the people alone.

In the comments, people are slamming the creator for exploiting the tribe just for TikTok views. Many are also claiming it could be dangerous to give them salt, which isn’t in their usual diet.

One person wrote, “Leave them alone, they are not bothering you,” while another added: “Did you just intrude their land for content and called them scary?”

“Why not bring them baskets of apples, oranges watermelon and other crazy good fruits and veggies?? I never understand this, like why give them salt chocolate?” someone else said.

However, others are convinced the whole thing is staged with paid actors, and it isn’t actually a real cannibal tribe at all.

“This is obviously staged,” one person said. “Please refrain from exaggerating the lifestyle of our remote people. You can film better community-based content and not misleading ones such as this.”

Another agreed: “The boat owner guy found guys in the bar then paid them to act like tribesmen.”

Dara Tah hasn’t responded to the backlash when writing this.
