What’s Kingdom of Kubala? ‘Lost tribe’ goes viral as missing woman appears as king’s second wife
The ‘tribe’ is situated in a Scottish forest, which they claim is actually Zion
The Kingdom of Kubala, a so-called “lost tribe” that has gone viral on TikTok, has seen the self-declared royal family reclaim a portion of Scottish woodland. They conduct their own rituals and religious practices, all while camping in the woods and taking tributes from locals such as fast food and fizzy drinks.
Here’s the whole viral saga explained.

Kofi Offeh, 36, from Ghana and Jean Gasho, 42, from Zimbabwe, have reimagined themselves as King Atehene and his wife Queen Nandi. They currently live in a forest encampment in Jedburgh, on the Scottish border, living in tents as they attempt to establish the Kingdom of Kubala without the wider rules and regulations of Great Britain.
King Atehene claims to be a “messiah” who, after hearing of a prophecy about the coming together of “lost tribes”, set out to rebuild land stolen from “black Jacobites” by Queen Elizabeth I in 1596. He further claims the Biblical land of Zion was not in the Middle East but in Scotland.

“The prophecy said, after 400 years, when my ancestors are destroyed from the land of Scotland, from the land of Great Britain, they will go into captivity and lose their identity. But after 400 years, I will come and bring them back to the land of promise. I am following the ancestral call and the call of the gods,” the king said.
“The calling from our creator to embark on this journey is the most important thing in our life. It is a journey of hope – a pilgrimage.”

“All hail the King of the North, all hail the Messiah… the Holy seed of David,” the queen says in one video as she fans her husband. “You are the chosen one. The one to usher us to the Promised Land, here in the holy land of Scotland.”

Though Kofi and Jean originally resided in Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham, they ventured over the border into Roxburghshire a few years ago. They were put up in a Scottish Borders Council property, but were later served another eviction notice, according to the MailOnline.
In the same report, it was revealed that Kofi and Jean were charged with child cruelty offences in 2024, but the charges were dropped earlier in 2025. Jean has since claimed that the youngest of her seven children “was legally abducted by Durham County Council” in 2021.
How is missing woman Kaura Taylor connected to it?

Though Kofi and Jean are the only members of their “lost tribe”, a missing woman from the US soon joined them in the Kingdom of Kubala. Twenty-one-year-old Kaura Taylor, who has been described as both the king’s second wife and a handmaiden, joined the tribe with her one-year-old baby. Her family and the baby’s father have shared worries about Kaura’s new lifestyle after going missing, but she rejected claims of her disappearance in a recent Facebook post.
“Yes, I’m very happy with my King and Queen, I was never missing,” she wrote.

After their first encampment “was burned to ashes”, allegedly by disgruntled locals, the self-declared king and queen relocated the Kingdom of Kubala to a nearby area. Still, Kofi is often seen loitering outside the Co-Op to use its Wifi.
A spokesperson for Scottish Borders Council said: “We have been working with Police Scotland in relation to an illegal encampment by three occupants on Council-owned property at Hartrigge near Jedburgh. This has included the provision of advice and information about housing options and other support services.
