From morning to the early hours: The routine for Islanders on the day of the Love Island final

They pack their bags and get sent straight to another villa

The day of the Love Island final is upon us. From a viewer perspective, we see the Islanders get all glammed up, confess their love for each other and then wait to see who has won. And whilst that is a huge part of the day, a lot more goes on behind the scenes.

Speaking to The Tab and in other interviews, former Islanders have spilled all about what the final day in the villa is really like. There’s a lot of prepping and nerves ahead of the big winner reveal, and it sounds like a busy day for everyone.

So, here’s a full rundown from morning to night of the routine Islanders have on the day of the big Love Island final.

The Islanders get a bit of a lie in, but then have to pack their cases

On the morning of the Love Island final, the remaining Islanders get a bit of a lie in. But then, it’s straight up to pack bags. “We wake up in the morning, pack all of our cases,” All Stars Islander Casey O’Gorman told The Tab, speaking on behalf of Heart Bingo.

Finalist Faye Winter said: “They actually gave us a really long lie-in. We woke up, packed our bags – we all packed our stuff up, packed our suitcases – and then left the villa and got ready.”

They are then taken out of the main villa, so the audience area can be set up and everything can get in place

After waking up and packing their bags, Casey told The Tab that quite early on in the day all Islanders are taken out of the main villa. This is so the main one can be prepped for the final. Islanders have said they aren’t really allowed to do anything on that last day, and you don’t really see much of your fellow Islanders.

Chloe Burrows added: “We ate McDonald’s and just sat and watched Netflix, but obviously you are supervised so you can’t go onto the internet.”

It’s time for a glam up!

A big chunk of the final day is spent getting ready for the big night ahead. Casey said: “You get your haircuts, the girls would be getting their hair done, you’d be getting pedicures, manicures – all that stuff.”

2019 winner Amber Gill said: “You’re literally just getting prepared for the final, picking the outfits you want to wear for the final.”

The cast will write their declarations of love

One of the most tear-jerking parts of the final is when the Love Island couples get up to share their declarations of love. They write a speech for their partner, and use the chance to say exactly how they feel about one another.

Faye revealed the Islanders are given more time off-screen to write their speeches. She said: “You fully write your speeches yourself so I wrote my poem myself. It was when we got taken out of the villa, when the girls went to the spa, then on camera, you kind of think about it but then you have, like, an hour, an hour and a half to write the speech.

“You go through it with producers, and then they type it up for you. Anything you write down, they then type it for you and then they give you as a printout on the night.”

Islanders film the opening scene for the finale episode

Then, it’s straight into filming! The Islanders will film some of the filler parts of the finale that we see at home, and then the rest is live.

Casey explained: “We went straight into the final with no rehearsals. We filmed a scene for the start of the episode with Maya, which plays during the opener of the show. Filming that 30-second clip for the intro took the whole day. The couple of days before the final, there’s absolutely no filming for the actual show whatsoever.”

During the live final, the couples will sit down with Maya and watch a highlights reel of their best bits. That’s the first time the Islanders have had a chance to watch anything back, too.

After the live Love Island final, there’s a big after party

The Love Island final doesn’t end with the episode. After the winners have been announced, it’s on to a huge after party. In the past this has included Islanders sharing photos of them all roaming around the villa, taking selfies together and drinking loads.

The villa is left in an absolute mess

After the chaos of the final and the after party, the villa is left in a complete mess. If anything gets left behind or lost, the Islanders have to try and hunt it down.

Casey told The Tab: “It’s a mess! The amount of lost property that’s there from start to finish is crazy. There’s so many people who get dumped that forget so much stuff from the first week to the last. By the eighth week, it’s a mess – it’s crazy. When they get dumped at the beach club, they’re not allowed back in the villa to pack their own stuff – we have to do that for them. That would be my worst nightmare!”

Speaking of trying to get back anything you might leave behind, he added: “You have to speak to the producers to tell them what’s missing. The producers would then speak to the Islanders, and they’d have to find the things.”
