Dundee student banned from social care work following rape conviction
His behaviour has been described as ‘likely to put members of the public at risk of harm’
A Dundee student has been banned from social work after being convicted of rape.
Kieran Dalton, a 28-year-old social care student who worked in Dundee, has been removed from the Scottish Social Services Council register.
He was found guilty of rape and abusive behaviour when he was tried at Edinburgh High Court on the 21st February.
According to STV News, he was sentenced to five years in prison for the rape he committed in Dundee. Once completed, he will serve an additional 20 months for his history of domestic violence incidents within relationships.
The court ordered Dalton to immediately comply with sex offender notification requirements to ensure public safety going forward.
It was shared with the court that Dalton’s address is in the Perth and Kinross area, despite committing his crime in Dundee.
The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) report stated: “The behaviour for which you have been convicted is at the highest end of the scale in terms of seriousness.”
“The behaviours suggest that you hold deep-seated attitudinal and values issues which are likely to put members of the public at risk of harm.
“The public have the right to expect social service workers, in whom they place their trust and confidence, to uphold the law and not engage in offensive behaviour.”
The SSSC further described Kieran as demonstrating “analogous behaviour spanning several years”, which has made their council aware of his “underlying attitudinal issues”, which they provide as reasoning for his ban from social care work.
A non-harassment order has been put in place by the court to legally prevent any contact between Dalton and the individual affected by his crimes for eight years.
