Ginny and Georgia: Here are the hidden meanings in Georgia’s lip shades throughout the show

Season three of Ginny and Georgia is out now, and the internet cannot stop talking about it.

This season, we’ve seen a rollercoaster of emotions from Georgia being on home arrest to then being on trial for murder.

Despite this wild storyline, Georgia’s character has been given even more depth, but maybe not in the way you’d think.

Well, it turns out that Georgia’s choice of lipstick throughout the show’s seasons convey hidden meanings, with each shade showing an underlying meaning into her journey as a character.

TikTok user Cat Quinn revealed that the head of makeup department, Randy Daudlin, spoke about how Georgia’s intentionally the only character who wears a red lip in the show.

The first time we see it is in season one, episode one, where by Georgia is interacting with Paul and Joe for the first time. It’s in this scene that she’s wanting to intentionally run into Paul, the mayor, and impress him with her charm as she’s just arrived at Wellsbury.

We next see it again in season two, episode nine, when Georgia says “It’s over, I won” to the detective that was investigating Georgia’s dark past trying to prove her to be guilty of murder.

Another example would be season three, episode five, while Georgia is arguing with Paul, beside her kids, right before the trial takes place.

So, why is it important that she’s wearing lipstick in these scenes?

Well, these scenes show a recurring pattern of authority and power that Georgia holds, in the sense that she does not fear anyone or anything. And all the scenes utilise a similar shade of red lipstick to embrace that.

Talking to her followers, Cat Quinn explained: “They chose red as her signature colour to mark her as the femme fatale, as it has long been a colour that draws men in, which is what she does, it’s also an alpha colour.”

This significantly separates Georgia as the “main character”, which can also be seen by the fact no one else wears red lipstick when in a scene with her.

Cat also explained that Randy wanted to make the colour palettes of the mother-daughter duo polar opposites, in order to convey a story about their relationship throughout.

In the show, Georgia is seen in bright reds, peach and pastel colours. On the other hand, Ginny is seen in cool toned darker colours. Cat further added that as the season progresses, the colour palettes start to blend.

“This is meant to showcase the bonding of the mom and daughter duo, which is shown towards the end of season two,” she said.

Cat also specified that the only exception where both characters are wearing a red lip, is in the wedding scene.

Brianne Howey, the actress who plays Georgia in the Netflix series, also confirmed, what Quinn stated in an interview with IMDB.

She said: “Georgia does wear a lot of red! We start season one with a lot of themes of passion and power.

“[Then as the seasons go on], we slightly shift to pink. This our breakdown season, things start to soften, we have our breakdowns so we can get to the breakthrough.”

She also explained that lighter shades of pink as Georgia’s lip shades signify the sadness of the character, especially in the scene where she has been arrested.
