Ginny and Georgia creator reveals whether Austin will be recast because he’s too old

Will a new actor play him in season four?

After Ginny and Georgia viewers were in hysterics over how old Austin looks in season three, the show’s creator has now revealed whether they are going to recast the character.

It’s been three whole years since season two came out, so actor Diesel Le Toracca has aged massively in that time, going from an 11-year-old boy to a pretty tall 14-year-old teenager.

However, season three of Ginny and Georgia picks up right where the last one left off, so the actor now looks way too old. They put the same glasses on him to try and hide it, but it wasn’t fooling anyone.

Everyone is predicting that the Austin actor will be recast to fit with the timeline, but creator Sarah Lampert told Us Weekly have no plans to find a new Austin for season four.

“Anyone who works on the show will tell you I am fastidious about the details. I am just specific with so many things. Then things like Diesel growing five years [older], I’m like, ‘Whatever.’ Because you can’t control it,” she said. “We can’t recast. Diesel is Austin.”

Speaking about how they will deal with the actor aging even more before season four, she said: “There are a few jokes we’re planning to make. We’re aware that he’s growing up and that helps us.”

“Honestly, it serves us because now he’s really a part of the family in a way that he wasn’t before. He was just a little kid. Now with everything we put him through in season 3 and having him enter season 4 as a preteen, he’s entering the chat in a way that he hasn’t before.”

Georgia or Ginny will probably make some silly joke about how Austin has really shot up over the summer at the start of season four and they won’t mention it any further.

“I think [that] is a really interesting dynamic. You don’t want to do a big time leap because that really misses emotional storytelling. Because of that, the flashbacks already make no sense in terms of the timeline of the flashbacks. Time is but a construct in Wellsbury,” Lambert added.

She asked viewers to “suspend their disbelief” (stop acting so surprised) because the actor simply “grew [up] and it’s a TV show.” It is hilarious, though.
