Swansea student mugged by two men whilst walking home after night out
‘What an advert for Swansea’
A Swansea student was mugged by two men whilst he was walking home after a night out.
On 14th March, the defendants, Scott Simmonds, aged 36, and Kieron Gordon, aged 24, were seen following the victim home from his night out in Swansea city centre. They pinned the victim to the floor and mugged him of his belongings. Both attackers have now been jailed.
On the evening of the attack, the victim was enjoying his night out in Swansea’s Wind Street. At 3:45am, the student walked home along Oxford Street, where the defendants discovered their target.
The student was assaulted by the two men near the Builder’s Arms pub at the lower end of Oxford Street. Simmonds started a discussion with the student before punching him and pinning him on the floor. They then searched through his belongings, then stole the victim’s bank card.
According to Wales Online, with the student’s card, they purchased £79 worth of alcohol, but any further purchases, totalling of £150, were declined.
On 18th March, the defendants were identified and arrested by local police.
In a statement released by Swansea Crown Court, Judge Geraint Walters, said: “What an advert for the city of Swansea and those seeking to be educated here.
“Come to our city, go out to do what students do, but you run the risk of being mugged by two men. It is disgraceful.”
Detective Inspector Stuart Prendiville of South Wales Police said: “Nobody should have to walk our city streets in fear of thugs like Keiron Gordon and Scott Simmonds.
“Their assault of the victim, which was no doubt fuelled by having consumed drugs and alcohol, was cowardly and completely unacceptable.

“The fact that they thought this was a crime they would get away with speaks volumes for their poor character. Prison is the right place for them.”
