Restaurant owner slams influencers for breaking unspoken rule at luxury dining experience

Chris D’Sylva has spoken out after his exclusive London event blew up on social media

A London restauranteur has slammed TikTok influencers for breaking his unspoken rule.

Chris D’Sylva, who owns Tuna Fight Club near Notting Hill, has spoken out after his dining experience blew up on social media.

Chris aims for Tuna Fight Club to be one of the most exclusive dining experiences for fish lovers in London. However, to keep it exclusive, he has an unspoken rule, and you guessed it, the first rule of Tuna Fight Club is you do not talk about Tuna Fight Club.

Tuna Fight Club is a gastronomic spectacle during which a large bluefin tuna from Spain is placed on a stainless steel slab. Chefs then carve it into pieces and serve it as sushi.

The tuna is said to cost £13,000 and is transported straight from Heathrow to the restaurant. It’s a unique and rare experience, with the fish being prepared right in front of guests who eat it raw.

It takes place in Holland Park’s Supermarket of Dreams, which transforms into a sushi lover’s heaven on Saturdays but tickets are already all sold out for the next couple of months.

People usually hear about the experience via word of mouth, creating an insiders only feel but recently it’s surged in popularity due to TikTok.

According to the New York Times, influencers have been posting a number of videos “fawning” over the experience whilst simultaneously being accused of not appreciating the food itself.

Chris said that Tuna Fight Club has become “more entertainment than immersion”, but wants to steer the event back towards its original roots of “if you know, you know”.

He further explained that since the TikTok boom, “we’ve got people coming for social currency — who don’t even eat fish”, adding: “They’re not our customers. And the customers that support our entire business? There are no tickets left for them.”

However, Chris does have plans to lessen the TikTok crowd at his dining experience. He said he wants to make sure people on the guest list are coming for “the right reasons”.

The Aussie restauranteur explained there are plans to expand the menu and increase the experiences price from £195 to £250, as well as introducing a lottery system for people outside of London.
