Delta Airlines issues statement after little girl holds plane ‘hostage’ with full Moana song
Not a company worth $31 billion wading into the drama
Delta Airlines has issued an official statement after a little girl began singing a full Moana song on a plane in May. The viral video, which has since amassed nearly 34 million views, has been widely shared across TikTok and Twitter as people dub the unnamed child everything from “antichrist” to “criminal.”
In the clip, which was originally posted by a passenger on the Delta Airlines flight, the little girl could be seen singing Moana into the plane’s intercom system. She belted How Far I’ll Go, a song about Moana’s internal conflict over wanting to leave her home, even clearing her voice midway through for that perfect pitch. To make matters worse, the flight was delayed for two hours and had been circling Orlando, Florida, for a further two hours – listening to any song, let alone a butchering of a Disney classic, is bound to wind anyone up.
@druziroaming When your Delta flight is delayed 2 hours and you circle Orlando for another 2… But then a little girl sings Moana on the crew mic and suddenly everything feels okay 🥹🎤✨ #DeltaAirlines #FlightDelay #OrlandoWeather #Moana #Wholesome #InFlightEntertainment #DisneyMagic #FeelGood
As you might have gathered, the hostage situation was not recieved well by people online, many of whom questioned how this “nightmare” scenario even came to be. Did her parents ask the flight attendants for an impromptu music performance? We might never know.
“Aye, man, that girl singing Moana on that plane would’ve been my 13th reason why. Please go sit tf down,” one person wrote.
Another said: “I’m gonna say it… Disney adults deserve to be stuck on a plane with a child singing Moana over the loudspeaker.”
“When they said a ‘kid’ was singing Moana on a plane, I thought maybe a little kid. Like four or five. This kid is like 10??? Why is she doing this? Who let her? What is going on?!” someone else wrote.
That little girl who was singing Moana on that Delta flight needs to sue her parents. Because why yall embarrass her like that 😭 in front of a plane full of disgruntled adults on a delayed flight. 😭

People have since claimed they were on the now-infamous flight, posting videos to TikTok that show them pulling their hair out in the aisle. Though some people might have very well been on the dreaded flight, others are clearly just using the viral TikTok sound.

That kid singing Moana on the plane would turn me into someone that tries to open the exit doors mid-flight.

The little girl in question, or more importantly, her parents, are yet to issue statements on Moana-gate, though I can’t imagine they are rushing to face the clear opposition to her sing-song. Instead, Delta Airlines offered a statement to Newsweek. They apologised for the delay, but there was no apology for the literal captive audience that was forced to listen to the song during a stressful flight.
“We appreciate the customer sharing her talents and apologise to our customers for the delay in their travels,” they said.
