Debunking whether the insanely viral video of the kangaroo in the airport is real or fake

Over the past few days, there is a certain video of a certain adorable animal that has absolutely monopolised the Twitter / X algorithm. I am of course talking about a certain jet setting kangaroo, with the Aussie animal going viral as it tries to get on a plane at an airport – and the video in question is causing a lot of debate about whether it’s real or not. As we sit in fear watching AI get to ridiculous levels of established so much so that we have to double take everything to check if it’s actually real or not, here’s a debunking on whether the viral video of the kangaroo trying to board a plane in an airport is real or fake.

I don’t know what to even think anymore, I’ll be real with you guys.

Real or fake, let that good boy ON 

The video is doing the rounds on various different accounts, and not all of them are clear about its origins. However, the video of the kangaroo was originally posted on Wholesome Side of X, and that account stated in the small print that the video is actually fake.

The tweet said “Airline staff is not allowing this cute kangaroo to board the airplane, the way he is holding the boarding pass and waiting to be scanned” – but underneath, in brackets, it says AI.

Furthermore, X’s AI assistant Grok explains “Yes, the video of a kangaroo holding a boarding pass at an airport is likely AI-generated. The original post labels it as (ai), and no credible reports confirm such an event. Kangaroos have appeared at airports, like in Melbourne in 2013 or on a 2021 flight, but not as passengers with tickets. The scenario is highly implausible, and AI tools in 2025 commonly create such content. No evidence suggests the video is real.”

Maybe I’m just literally insane or embarrassingly stupid, but I fear my eyes glazed over the original (ai) in brackets and I actually had to google this. Hopefully now none of you will make the same mistake as I did. It’s kind of harrowing how great AI has got. I do not like it at all.
