The unexpected items that survived the implosion of OceanGate’s Titan sub
They found scraps of clothing
The US Coast Guard recovered some surprising personal items from the wreckage of OceanGate’s Titan sub.
The submersible imploded on 18th June 2023, killing all five people inside. A new documentary about the tragedy shows members of the US Cost Guard sorting through the wreckage. They made some surprising discoveries.
The endcap part of the sub stayed somewhat intact, and contained some items. The Cost Guard member explained in Implosion: The Titanic Sub Disaster: “Let’s consider the endcap to be a bowl, a mixing bowl. Items that were inside of the Titan at the time now become incased inside of the endcap.”

The team sorted through the wreckage, and separated out what seemed to be human remains from the fiberglass and electronic parts. They found clothing in the sand that belonged to the CEO of OceanGate, Stockton Rush.
The cost guard member continued: “‘As we were pulling it apart that is how we realised it was Mr. Rush’s clothing… It was a piece of his sleeve that survived, not the whole suit, just that. Inside of the sleeve of it was the ink pen, business cards and stickers for the Titanic and there was nothing else but that.

“Each one of those pieces, even the pen, was still intact. It hadn’t been broken. All of this debris, all of these things shattered but his pen was still intact.”
