Prospective University of Leeds medicine student killed in a hit-and-run

His family described him as a ‘one in a million, and adored by his brother and two sisters’

A prospective University of Leeds medicine student has been killed in a hit-and-run.

Ashton Kitchen-White, 19, died after being hit by a red Ford Focus as he was crossing Middleton Ring Road, in Beeston Park, Leeds on Friday the 16th.

He was due to begin his studies to become a doctor at the University of Leeds.

West Yorkshire Police said Regan Kemp, 26, from St Just, Penzance, and Liam Miller, 24, from Polbeth, West Lothian, were arrested after handing themselves in to the police.

A third man, Macauley Martin, 26, from Livingston, West Lothian, was arrested overnight and is due to appear at Leeds Magistrates Court for the charge of causing death by dangerous driving in relation to the collision.

In Ashton’s family’s statement, they said: “We cannot express the sheer devastation we all feel. Although his life was cruelly taken from us, he will always be remembered for the absolutely beautiful soul that he was.”

Outside of his studies, he enjoyed going to the gym and combat sports.

Several people have also paid tribute to Ashton on social media, describing him as a “remarkable young man who had his hopes and dreams taken away from him at such a young age.”

One person said: “I went to primary school with this lad and we sat next to each other every day, we had some great laughs.”

Another person added: “My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and anyone else who was lucky enough to have known Ashton.”

“The family would like to thank everyone for their support and outpouring of love and ask that their privacy is respected at this difficult time.”
