Influencer slammed for taking her giant Great Dane service dog on United Airlines flight
‘It’s absolutely ridiculous that this is allowed’
An influencer has been slammed after taking her enormous Great Dane service dog on board a normal United flight, which the airline surprisingly allows.
Piêtra Lucass, a San Francisco-based lifestyle, fitness and fashion influencer with 2.6 million Instagram followers, flew to Miami in April with her 120-pound pooch Charlie.
The 27-year-old shared a video of the Great Dane boarding the flight and walking through the narrow plane aisle, which has had more than 45 million views.
“It’s absolutely ridiculous that this is allowed. A bloody donkey on a plane,” one person commented.
Another said: “She doesn’t have any respect for other human beings.”
“Ridiculous! I’m pretty confident she would not be able to restrain something of that size should it decide to kick off ,” someone else added.
However, Lucass told Newsweek she didn’t have any difficulty getting him on board the five-hour flight, saying she flies with the dog a lot and buys three seats.
“There are passengers who don’t like it, and I understand that. But that’s why I buy the three seats for us. During the flight, Charlie is trained to be quiet. He pretty much sleeps most of the time,” she said.
The influencer insisted that the dog, who is also an influencer with more than 347,000 followers on his own Instagram, is a “need” for her as he is a service animal.
“When you’re flying from a public airport, you have to accept other people’s needs. I have a hard time having to spend six hours inside a plane with kids crying, but I also understand the situation,” she continued.
“You don’t have to like it, but you do have to respect it.”

Other people are happy to see Charlie on the plane and try to stroke him, but Piêtra doesn’t allow it because “he is working” and shouldn’t be distracted.
The United Airlines website states that service dogs over four months old who are “trained to perform tasks for someone with a disability” are permitted on United and United Express flights free of charge.
Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), any dog can be a service animal if it is trained to perform tasks directly related to a person’s disability, regardless of breed or size.
