It’s time to meet the long awaited winner of Glasgow’s 2024/25 BNOC competition
‘The fires rage and banners fly upon my impassible victory’
After weeks of group chat propaganda, mysterious late night nominations and a frankly absurd amount of passion for a title that means nothing and everything all at once, the winner of Glasgow’s BNOC 24/25 has emerged from the smoke.
With 44 per cent of the final vote, your chosen winner is Aaryan Girvan, a second year zoology student, forest fighter, and possible interdimensional warlord??? We’re just as confused as you are, but the quirkiness is why we love Lord Girvan (he made me call him that).
Let us be the first to say: Glasgow, you’ve made a strange, glorious choice – and we couldn’t be more proud.
So, who is Aaryan Girvan?
Well, according to his extremely modest and totally normal victory speech: “The fires rage and banners fly upon my impassible victory. I thank all of you for your support, it would be impossible to achieve domination without you all.”
He then went on to explain that most of his days are spent “walking in forests, fighting, fighting in forests, or driving to mountains surrounded by forests to fight.” You know, the usual BNOC behaviour.
Aaryan also claims to be evading death by “otherworldly creatures” and documenting them as part of his hands-on zoology experience. Whether that’s an elaborate metaphor for being in Hive on a Thursday night or genuine cryptid hunting, we’ll leave up to you to decide.

If you’re brave enough to venture further, he invites you to explore the void with him at @the_void_engine. We assume this is either a spiritual philosophy page or the name of his indie-folk metal band. Either way, we’re intrigued.
Congratulations, Lord Girvan
To everyone who nominated, voted, and fuelled this beautifully unhinged process: We salute you. May you all carry the chaotic energy of this BNOC comp with you into exam season and beyond.
And to Aaryan – Glasgow’s kookiest, wildest, most legendary BNOC of 2025 – may your reign be long, your stories be even stranger, and your next forest battle be victorious.
As he so humbly declared in his speech: “There are no bounds to what I can conquer. First the university, next, the world.”
Frankly, we believe him. And we’ll be watching from a safe distance. Possibly with binoculars.
