Scary final words suspect in Times Square stabbing said to police before she was shot dead

A woman was killed by police following a double stabbing in Times Square, New York. 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros was shot and killed by police after authorities said she stabbed two strangers in a random attack. Following the attack, she was asked by police to drop her weapons, but refused. 

Cisneros is alleged to have taken two knives out of a shopping bag, before stabbing the two victims. One was killed, and another is reported as being in a stable condition in hospital. 

New York Police Department (NYPD) Commissioner Jessica Tisch described the attack, that took place on Monday evening, as “unprovoked” and said the stabbings took place 20 seconds apart. It took place in one of New York’s busiest, and most policed, areas.

“A witness at the scene told investigators that he observed the subject remove two knives from a red Target bag before approaching the first victim,” Jessica Tisch said at a news conference. “The subject waved the knives before stabbing a 68-year-old man in the right side of his abdomen, in what appears to be a random and unprovoked attack.”

The suspect then continued up Seventh Avenue towards 42nd Street, which is where she stabbed a second victim. Bank of America vice president Erin Piacenti did not survive the attack, after being taken to hospital.

Police then approached the suspect, and requested she drop her weapons. They engaged in conversation with her for around four minutes. The suspect is said to have told officers: “I’m not dropping anything, I’d rather kill both of you.” She repeated: “I will kill you.”

The suspect then waved knives in the direction of the officers, who first tried to Taser her, but this was “ineffective”. NYPD shot the woman, and she has since been pronounced dead. 

The New York Police Department has since confirmed in a statement that the investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD Force Investigation Division.
