Here’s why Kate Cassidy ‘might’ inherit a portion of Liam Payne’s £24 million fortune

The law says it’s possible

Liam Payne tragically passed away last year in October, leaving behind a £24 million fortune. However, as he didn’t have a will, his estate is subject to intestacy laws. This means his closest relatives, including his son Bear, will inherit his wealth. Kate Cassidy, who had been in a relationship with Liam Payne for nearly two years at the time of his death, may also have a potential claim to inherit his fortune.

So, why might Kate Cassidy be able to inherit his fortune?

Kate Cassidy was not married to Liam. But under UK law, unmarried partners who can prove they were financially dependent on the deceased can apply for “reasonable financial provision” from the estate. During their time together, Kate reportedly received a £20,000 monthly allowance from Liam. This could be a key factor if she decides to make a claim.

So, what’s the evidence Kate could use?

There are several pieces of evidence that could back up Kate’s claim. Liam had written a note expressing his intention to marry Kate within a year. Also, friends, including Rogelio Nores, have stated that Liam had even asked him to be his best man. These personal notes and testimonies, along with Kate’s own statements about their future plans, could be used to strengthen her case in court.

So, how could Kate make a claim?

Under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975, an unmarried partner can apply for financial provision from the estate if they were financially dependent on the deceased. Kate would need to make her claim within six months of the formal administration of Liam’s estate. However, proving financial dependency can be challenging, and such legal proceedings are often both emotionally and financially draining.

But will she pursue a claim?

Despite the potential evidence in Kate’s favour, it’s unlikely that she will pursue a claim on Liam’s fortune. Speaking to MailOnline, friends close to Kate have said that she is not motivated by money and is fully supportive of Bear, Liam’s son, being the main beneficiary of his father’s estate. Kate is also financially independent. She earns money through her own social media partnerships. So, it’s believed that she wouldn’t seek to challenge the inheritance.
