All the wild hidden Spotify features that you didn’t know you actually had access to
What do you MEAN there’s a hidden game you can play with playlists!?
Spotify has so many hidden features in the app that you can literally use right now, and I bet you had no clue they even exist. These hidden features are a great way to spice up your listening vibe if you’re sick of just pressing play on Lady Gaga’s Mayhem album for the billionth time – so here are some amazing tricks and tips you can do with Spotify that I bet you didn’t know about.
Daylist
Spotify launched its Daylist feature in September 2023. The gimmick of this custom playlist is basically it gives you a curated listening vibe based on your usual listening habits at that time of the day. So if you search it on a Tuesday morning or afternoon, the Daylist will be the sort of music you normally are blasting at that time. It will give you a little name for it that will make you feel either very seen, very dragged or very confused.
So basically, they told me on Monday nights I’m depressed. Brilliant.
In contrast though, as I’m writing this my spritely little Tuesday morning Daylist is clearly more adapted to my tendency to blast the upbeat pop girlies when working. It’s easy to find your Daylist, you just search it in the search bar and see what mood it gives you.
The secret game of Snake
Most Read
This one is super covert, but Spotify actually has a hidden feature where you can EAT your playlist. If you go to the three dots on a playlist to access the settings for it, click on the eat this playlist option for the mobile app to turn your phone into a game that resembles Snake on old phones back in the day. Each song from the playlist plays until you chomp it, and so on. It’s great.
I can’t tell you how obsessed and addicted I am to this feature.
It will also give you a high score, and I currently can’t beat 71 when my playlist has 250 songs in it, so you can imagine I’m feeling equal parts miffed and competitive.
The sleep timer
Listen to Spotify when you fall asleep but don’t want it to play on all night? Great little feature for you here that sorts that issue right out. The feature is accessible from the Now Playing screen while listening to music. Once on the screen, you can just hit the three dots in the top right corner, scroll all the way to the bottom of the menu and select ‘Sleep timer.‘ Users can choose from durations between five minutes and one hour, or stop playing after the track ends. Hopefully you know how long it takes to fall asleep or you might get some awkward silence.
AI DJ
The Spotify AI DJ has been around for a while now, but you might not have even bothered with it. If you haven’t, you’re missing out, because it can make you a custom mix – literally like a radio station DJ – who mixes in songs from your heavy rotation with AI that helps you find new stuff you might not have thought you even needed to hear!
Blend
Spotify Blend is honestly essential to me, and always blows my mind how many don’t know about it. Blend started just between you and one other and would align your music tastes for a playlist. But now, you can get the full group chat in. What’s great is it updates daily, forever, so you can see who is listening to what in the playlist and how similar your music tastes are between you and all the gang.
