Spotify finally addresses the rumours that Premium is about to start getting adverts

There are rumours circulating that Spotify Premium was about to get adverts. Currently, of course, users streaming on the Premium service for Spotify get uninterrupted, unlimited streaming of pretty much every song ever made. When you are bombarded with adverts on literally every platform, having Spotify Premium is truly a blessing in a horrendous app landscape. Especially when you realise that even when you need to come off YouTube and TikTok, who bombard you with ads, there are no rumours spreading that Spotify Premium would be introducing adverts. Because of all these rumours, Spotify itself had to release a statement updating on if it is actually happening.

The rumours

Several tweets circulated over the last few days that basically said that Spotify was planning on introducing adverts to its current Premium tier in order to then release a deluxe tier that would be ad free if customers paid more. Think how Amazon have done similar.

One tweet said “They are saying @Spotify wants to introduce ads to premium so they can roll out a Deluxe version. I hope Spotify knows that the ONLY reason I use them is for Spotify Wrapped and I don’t need it. So, the minute I hear a whisper, a hint, a concept of an ad, BYE!”

Another said: “Why am I being forced to listen to multiple adverts when I pay for a Premium Account? Even says ‘Ad Free Listening’ under my account settings…. What gives?? This has never happened before.”

A third tweeted: “I am telling you right now the SECOND Spotify puts an ads on their paid premium tier it’s over I cannot believe what a garbage company they are like truly and genuinely.”

Because of all the rumours, Spotify released a statement on whether Premium would indeed be receiving adverts.

There is a rumor circulating that Spotify is putting ads into premium music listening. This rumor is false. Premium music listening is and will remain ad-free.

In a crystal clear post, Spotify said “There is a rumour circulating that Spotify is putting ads into premium music listening. This rumour is false. Premium music listening is and will remain ad-free.”

Thank GOD for that, then.
