Camera discovered under desk in student study space at London university

Students were worried someone was filming them

A camera was found under the desk in a study space at Queen Mary University of London. The camera appears to have been used for filming London uni students without their consent.

Students at the London uni voiced concerns that someone had been placing small cameras under desks in order to film up students’ skirts. The university sent an email to students on the afternoon of Thursday 20th March confirming that they had found a camera under a desk in the Graduate Centre.

The email seen by The Tab says: “Following the discovery of an under-desk camera in the Graduate Centre this week (which was immediately removed) – and reports of concerning behaviour from students regarding unauthorised filming – we continue to take all necessary steps to investigate the issue.”

The university has not yet found any other cameras. The university has increased monitoring of the study spaces across the campus. Students are encourage to report anything of concern to the university.

A spokesperson for Queen Mary University of London told The Tab: “This week, security colleagues found a camera under a desk in one of our student areas. They immediately removed the camera, which did not contain a memory card and was not connected to any other device. No other devices were found following a scan of study spaces across the University, which we continue to monitor.

“The safety and security of our Queen Mary community is our number one priority, and we continue to investigate this serious matter thoroughly. Support is available to our students and staff, including through our dedicated, 24/7 student wellbeing helpline and our advice and counselling service.”
