The White Lotus’ Walton Goggins reveals terrifying moment he was bitten by a snake on set
He has a massive phobia of snakes too
Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood’s characters are quickly becoming everyone’s favourite on The White Lotus, and he’s just revealed a crazy behind-the-scenes accident that happened on set.
In that weird scene where Rick lets all the snakes out of their cages, Chelsea gets bitten, but the actor was actually bitten in real life by one of the reptiles too.
Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live, he explained: “All of them were real snakes, and I don’t just have a phobia, it’s like a missing link when it comes to snakes.”
“I’m really, really terrified, and there’s something genetically wrong with me when it comes to snakes.”
“When I picked up the snake for the very first time, I started crying uncontrollably. Mike White is looking at me like, ‘Oh my God. I don’t want to torture this poor guy, but we need to get a close-up’.”
Little did he know, his fear of the reptiles was about to get even worse because one of them attacked him.
“They yell ‘Action,’ and it’s like, ‘Okay, don’t open the first one, because they’ll kill you’,” he recalled thinking to himself.

“The next one – was it green, or was it brown? Which one has a big bite? And so I started pulling the green one, and as I was pulling the snake out, he didn’t want to come, and so the snake turns around, and he bit me!”
“I wish I could have been cool. I fancy myself a pretty cool guy. Like, ‘Hey, yeah, I got a snake bite.’ This was my reaction, I swear to God, it was like, ‘Oh my God, I’ve been bit by a snake! Oh, my God!'” he said.

Thankfully, the snake was non-venomous and he was completely fine, but Goggins did go to the hospital the next day as a precaution.
“We had another nine hours to go or whatever, and so you just kind of stayed in it, and they put a little Neosporin on it,” the actor explained.
“The next day, I get a phone call from the producer – I had finally got it out of my system, it’s like, you’re okay – I get a phone call from the producer saying, ‘Hey, you know what? We’ve been thinking about it, and I’m thinking maybe you should go to the hospital’.”
He was suddenly terrified that the snake wasn’t nonvenomous after all, so he went to the hospital and got a tetanus shot. Everything was totally fine, but his snake phobia is now worse than ever.
