Lancaster Uni’s vice-chancellor’s salary to increase by £165k when he moves to Glasgow Uni
He’s set to earn a salary of £400,000 per year
Lancaster University’s vice-chancellor’s salary is estimated to be increasing by £165,000 when he begins working at the University of Glasgow next autumn.
Professor Andy Schofield has recently accepted the role of principal and vice-chancellor at Glasgow, and will finish his work at Lancaster in August 2025.
He is currently estimated to be earning £235,000 per year, whilst his new role will pay £400,000, according to the Lancaster Guardian.
This will mean an increase in salary of approximately £165,000.
Professor Schofield, a theoretical physicist who has held Lancaster University’s vice-chancellor role since 2020, will replace Sir Anton Muscatelli in Glasgow from 1st September 2025, when Sir Anton will guide him through a four-week handover period.
With Sir Anton in the role of vice-chancellor and principal, the University of Glasgow has an estimated economic impact of £4.4 billion annually, according to Times Higher Education.
When he announced his new role, Professor Schofield said he has “mixed emotions” about leaving Lancaster.
“I am very proud of all we are achieving together and remain wholeheartedly committed to Lancaster’s future,” he added. “The opportunity to lead the University of Glasgow was one I never expected and, when the time comes, it will be a huge wrench to leave Lancaster University, but it is a chance too good to pass up.”
