University of Lincoln poetry society to raise money for Palestinian charity

The Poets’ Society will be hosting a fundraiser on Wednesday 11th December

On Wednesday 11th December, the University of Lincoln’s Poets’ Society is hosting a fundraiser to raise money for War Child.

War Child is a charity that focuses on helping children who have been impacted or displaced by war, offering everything from emergency supplies to education and therapy.

The fundraiser will be hosted in INB0114 at 6pm.

Members of The Poets’ Society will be reading poetry by Palestinian authors. There will also be a raffle with the opportunity to win “Forest of Noise” by Mosab Abu Toha, a collection of poetry about life in Gaza. Attendees will also be able to pick up a sweet treat from the bake sale.

The event will be free entry, with donations not compulsory. However, the society will have both cash and card donation points.

President of the Poets’ Society, Blake, a third year English and creative writing student said to The Lincoln Tab: “We want to make the night a place for the voices of Palestine to not just be heard, but listened and responded to.

“Any money we make through our readings, raffle, and bake sale can help a child who’s lost their home or members of their family.”

This is the second year the Poets’ Society is holding a fundraiser for Palestine, and when taking over the society, the new committee said it “wanted to keep using the society as a way to give something back.”

If you can’t make the event, but still want to donate, make sure to check out the event’s JustGiving page.
