Hold on, I bet you didn’t clock the wild, obvious pattern of I’m A Celeb winners

It’s all starting to add up

Danny Jones was crowned king of the jungle on I’m A Celeb on Sunday and despite my continued argument that I’ve been a McFly superfan for years, I am only now connecting the dots between Danny and seasons since the past.

McFly, and Danny by extension, had a transformative effect on my childhood, from the standout songs they put out to the cheeky attitudes they became synonymous with. Naturally, I was overjoyed when Danny was announced as one of 2024’s I’m A Celeb contestants.

Danny was crowned this year’s champ on Sunday, with the McFly boys wishing him congratulations from the other side of the world. Only then did it click that I’m A Celeb is quickly becoming a McFly extended family affair, here’s why.

Danny is the second McFly boy to win I’m A Celeb

Long before Danny even considered joining the show, Dougie Poynter was eating testicles and insects with celebrities such as Mark Wright and Fatima Whitbread in what is widely considered one of the best instalments of the show ever. Of course, he ultimately won his series in 2011.

While Danny ultimately acquired 33 stars in his trials out of the 44 available, Dougie did not miss a star, as he acquired all 14 available. Danny might have scored more, but Dougie is not missing a beat or a star.

Our next dot to connect comes in 2020 when one Giovanna Fletcher won season 20 against Jordan North, Vernon Kay, and Shane Richie. Recognise that last name? Giovanna married Danny’s bandmate Tom Fletcher in 2012, eight years before she won 34 out of the available 39 stars.

Now, I’m about to really stretch this conspiracy theory so bear with me.

During 2006’s instalment, which included iconic contestants such as Myleene Klass, Jason Donovan, and Dean Gaffney, Matt Willis dominated the competition and went on to secure the crown.Ā As you’ll no doubt remember, Matt was a member of both Busted and the combined supergroup McBusted. He did the worst of the McFly extended family, scoring only 14 stars out of the 29 available.

Now, I’m not saying that McFly’s Harry Judd and Tom Fletcher should throw their hats in the ring for next year, but I’m also not not saying that. It would be pretty cool if every member of McFly won I’m A Celeb.
