Nerve Radio wins three awards at the Student Radio Awards

The awards is an annual celebration to recognise the achievements in the student radio and audio community

Bournemouth University Student Union’s award-winning radio station, Nerve Radio, received three awards at the 2024 Student Radio Awards (SRA).

The radio station’s presenters, Hannah Clubley and Kitty Nixon, were awarded Gold for “Best Interview” after exclusively interviewing chart-topping artist Badger at the SUBU Summer Ball in June this year.

Hannah, a journalism master’s student at Bournemouth University, said: “Nerve Radio has been such an important part of my university experience. It’s how I found my love for interviewing, and I haven’t stopped since!”

Nerve Radio was also awarded Silver for “Best Event Programming” for an event they organised at the Students’ Union’s Dylan’s Kitchen & Bar in February.

The team hosted a free gig for all Bournemouth University students, with live performances from local bands Galaxy Thief and LJ & Franks, whilst broadcasting the event live on FM radio across Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch.

The third award the station won was Silver for “Best Multiplatform Initiative” for their Round the Clock Radio Challenge, held in June.

Nerve Radio hosted a 24-hour broadcast, where they were joined by presenters from other student radio stations across the south, to raise money for Mind, The Teenage Cancer Trust, The Journey of a Lifetime Trust and Epilepsy Action.

More than 200 students and industry guests attended the awards ceremony, including some of the biggest names in broadcast talent and senior management from public, commercial and independent networks, agencies, and companies around the UK.

Jeffery Ononiwu, Vice-President of Student Opportunities at the Students’ Union, said: “A huge congratulations to all students involved with Nerve Radio. This has been another incredible achievement for our student-led radio station, and we’re so pleased to see them adding more awards to their trophy cabinet!

“The aim of Nerve Radio is to give our students the space to host their own radio shows, try out new ideas and develop their skills. We’ve seen many of our Nerve alumni secure jobs within the industry, and we have no doubt this legacy will continue.

“These awards and nominations are a real testament to the hard work the students put into running the station. We couldn’t be prouder of their achievements.”
