Mouldy accommodation reported by Bournemouth University student

Second year university student reports issues with accommodation at The Student Village

Connor Savage, second year Bournemouth University student studying the BSc in Psychology with Counselling, chose to re-stay in his first year accommodation in The Student Village, Talbot.

Connor’s father, Wayne Savage, said he is “livid”, after finding his son’s room covered in fur, black mould with water running down the walls. These issues have resulted in Connor experiencing symptoms such as a chesty cough – though this is not confirmed to be a direct result of the mould.

The mould was reported to the university, and a maintenance worker painted over the issue.

Wayne stated,

“I went in on Sunday (November 3rd) after being home for the weekend and I touched his bed and under his pillow was soaking wet –

There was water running down the walls and the mattress had black spots all over it. Everything was covered in fur.”

As a result of these issues, multiple of Savage’s items had to be disposed of such as clothing, shoes and photo frames.

Savage stated in an email to The Student Village housing team,

“I feel extremely let down by Bournemouth University.”

A Bournemouth University spokesman said:

“We are committed to provide our students with safe and comfortable places to live when they stay in our accommodation and agree that this required urgent attention.

– We have systems for reporting maintenance issues and raising complains if students are unhappy with repair work. This particular issue was raised through these processes and as a result, we are working to put it right as soon as possible.”
