Gregg Wallace’s net worth and MasterChef salary amid ‘historic’ allegations
Gregg’s grocery business had a turnover of £7.5 million at its peak
Gregg Wallace has stepped back from MasterChef after almost 20 years of hosting the show where he earned his millionaire status.
This week, the BBC announced that it was investigating the claims of 13 people over 17 years and across five different TV shows. They alleged a pattern of misconduct, something which both Gregg and his lawyers have denied.
What is Gregg Wallace’s net worth?
Gregg Wallace began his working career at 15 when he took a job as a grocer at Covent Garden market, with him later starting his first business, George Allan’s Greengrocers, in 1989. It eventually had a turnover of £7.5 million before it folded in 2002.
He later entered the restaurant business in 2010 with Wallace & Co. and later Gregg’s Bar and Grill in a joint business with Bermondsey Square Hotel. Both restaurants were closed in 2014, with Gregg and his investors owing £150,000 to suppliers.
Gregg’s 2002 greengrocer business, Secretts Direct, which was later renamed to West Veg Ltd, went into voluntary liquidation in 2013 as he claimed that poor farming practices were to blame.
“Business is tough everywhere and this particular sector is extremely hard. Producers are being squeezed from all sides,” he told The Mirror at the time. “Not only are farmers suffering because they can’t plant or physically get produce out of the ground, but the impact of the recession has also resulted in restaurants closing or orders being a fraction of what they once were.”
According to Celeb Worth, Greg Wallace’s 2024 net worth is a massive £3.9 million.
