Gregg Wallace’s mum speaks out as investigation launched into ‘historic’ misconduct
Mary Pettman commented on her son’s MasterChef future
Gregg Wallace’s mum has spoken out after her son “stepped away” from presenting MasterChef while an investigation is launched into claims of historic misconduct.
On Thursday, it was announced that Gregg would be stepping back from his role as the BBC investigates the claims of 13 people who reported misconduct over a 17-year period and across five shows. Among the accusations, which also include claims from Newsnight host Kirsty Wark, Gregg allegedly took his top off in front of a female worker for a “fashion show”, told a female worker he wasn’t wearing underwear and used sexualised language.
Gregg has denied any wrongdoing and thanked people for their support on Instagram, with his lawyers further denying the claims in a statement.
What did Gregg Wallace’s mum say?
Following the news, Mary Pettman, 81, offered her thoughts about her son’s investigation to the MailOnline, telling the publication that he is doing just “fine” amid the accusations.
“He’s fine. I speak to my son quite regularly and he is fine,” she said.
Mary also touched on when we could expect to see Gregg on MasterChef again, stating: “I have no idea what it’s about. You will have to speak to him.”
MasterChef production company Banijay UK announced Gregg’s departure from the show on Thursday, explaining: “Whilst these complainants have not raised the allegations directly with our show producers or parent company Banijay UK, we feel that it is appropriate to conduct an immediate, external review to fully and impartially investigate. While this review is under way, Gregg Wallace will be stepping away from his role on MasterChef and is committed to fully co-operating throughout the process.
“Banijay UK’s duty of care to staff is always a priority and our expectations regarding behaviour are made clear to both cast and crew on all productions, with multiple ways of raising concerns, including anonymously, clearly promoted on set. Whilst these are historical allegations, incidences brought to our attention where these expectations are not met, are thoroughly investigated and addressed appropriately.”
