Nottingham man jailed after attacking three people, including student, over two days

He also pointed an imitation gun at one of the victims

A homeless man in Nottingham has been jailed after threatening and chasing a member of the public with an imitation gun, before attacking a group of students and a council worker.

According to Nottinghamshire Police, Wayne Prescott had been sleeping rough in Curzon Street Car Park, when he got into an argument with a man on 12th March 2024.

Despite the verbal exchange between the two remaining unknown, CCTV from the scene showed Prescott getting up from a sitting position and proceeding to chase the victim.

The incident happened at around 7am with the footage showing Prescott holding a gun in his right hand which he proceeded to point at the victim.

Police arrived at the scene shortly and a BB gun was later recovered from a nearby bin.

Prescott had another altercation the following day. He sought out a group of students outside the city’s Victoria Centre before knocking one of them to the ground with a punch to the face. He then proceeded to throw punches at others in the group.

Later on that day, he directed an onslaught of racial abuse towards a council worker who had asked him and a friend to move on from the car park.

After this request, Prescott headbutted the man in the face and punched him.

Prescott has since pled guilty to possessing an imitation fire arm with intent to cause fear of violence, causing actual bodily harm and racially aggravated assault.

At Nottingham Crown Court on 29th October, Prescott’s defence explained he felt great remorse for his actions and stressed that he was in withdrawal from drugs.

Detective Constable Jess Dennis, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “There are three victims in this case who were each unlucky enough to come face to face with Prescott in Nottingham City Centre.

“One was threatened with a gun he had no reason to believe was an imitation, and two were violently assaulted while going about their lawful business.

“Prescott may have been homeless at the time of these offence but that is no defence for the appalling behaviour he displayed.

“I am pleased he has now been handed a significant jail sentence and hope this case serves as a reminder to others about how seriously we take offences of this nature – particularly those involving imitation weapons.”

Prescott has been jailed for 35 months.
