Two old interviews where Blake Lively says a transphobic slur have resurfaced and it’s BAD

What was she thinking?

Amid the seemingly endless drama surrounding Blake Lively and her new film It Ends With Us, a lot of old faux pas of the actress have resurfaced and they paint her in a less than ideal light to say the least. Last week, a journalist shared an uncomfortable old interview which she claimed almost drove her to quitting her job. And just when things could get as bad as you thought for Blake Lively, a resurfaced interview quote from a newspaper article has gone viral online which shows her saying a transphobic slur in a bizarre quote about children.

A tweet went viral this weekend which showed an image of Blake Lively giving a quote to a journalist where she says a term widely accepted to be transphobic. At the time when it was said, it wasn’t particularly said within the same context as now – but it still would have been a word said more within the queer community itself. For example, RuPaul’s Drag Race in its early days would use the word but then changed later on as it got more unacceptable to say it.

During the Gossip Girl era, Blake Lively spoke to Elle magazine about her hopes for the children she’d have in the future and what they might wear. The quote reads “I hope to have a few girls one day. If not girls, they better be tr*nnies. Because I have some amazing shoes and bags that need to be appreciated.”

The tweet has now been seen by over three million people on Twitter / X. It also isn’t the only time she said the slur, as someone in the replies posted a video of Blake Lively being interviewed in the late 00s.

In the video, Blake Lively says “You read the gossip magazines and everybody is dating everyone, everyone hates everyone, everybody’s had tons of plastic surgery and we’re actually men and tr*nnies – it’s just like, you don’t listen to the rumours.”

Further tea came out as the poster of the original viral tweet shared an article where a trans woman wrote in 2012 (the time the ELLE quote came out) that she’d previously called Blake Lively out back in 2009.

Yikes.
